Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider invented cloud computing in 1960 when he was working on The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) which connects people from anywhere.

In 1983, CompuServe offered a bit of disk space to its consumer users in which they were allowed to store any type of files they want.  In 1994, AT&T (American Telephone and Telegraph) an American multinational conglomerate holding company launched PersonaLink service, an online platform for both personal and business communication and entrepreneurship.  It was the first Web-based Storage.

2. Public Cloud Storage: This type of cloud storage is basically for enterprises. The service provider manages the hardware which helps the enterprises from extra costs. It can be organized faster than on-premises data storage because it is more accessible. It stores static and live data.

3.Private Cloud Storage: This type of cloud storage is used by a single organization. The stored data is only accessible by the corporation. 4.Hybrid Cloud Storage: It’s a combination of both public and private cloud storage. It merges the benefits provided by both cloud storage. Enterprises can do some tasks like Webmail in public cloud storage but to keep their data safe they use private cloud storage. Organizations can separate rarely accessed data from regularly accessed data through Hybrid cloud storage.

  • Security of Data- Cloud Storage helps data from ransomware and malware. It also helps from data loss.

Disadvantages of Cloud Storage:

  • Internet speed – A good and stable internet connection is needed to access or share data from cloud storage.
  • High Cost for huge data-  Organizations that store terabytes of data in the cloud storage have to pay high service costs.
  • Minimum control over data storage framework- The customers have minimal control because the entire data storage framework is managed by the service provider.
